Matchday 2: hockey Vs Belville High

For the second match in South Africa, RGS came up against Bellville High School after a busy day touring the Springbok museum and Two Oceans Aquarium. RGS were very much looking forward to the games, looking to secure the first wins of the tour.

Belville were tough competition for the 2nds but, thanks to Tori Humble and Jasmine Metters, RGS secured a goal early in the first half which boosted their confidence in attack for the remainder of the game.

RGS’s determination stayed constantly high throughout the game, facing six short corners in which the defence stood firm, thanks to Juliette Clark, Trudie McCarthy, Emma Davis, Grace Hudson and Martha Harris: no goal came for Belville. persevered. Lauren Robson, keeping goal for both sides.

After a half time team talk RGS looked to increase the intensity throughout midfield, thanks to some hard work from Amelia Ikwue, Jasmine Metters and Gia Smith. RGS held their lead and secured their first win of the tour.

The RGS 1st team then faced a very physical Bellville High for their second match on tour. Expectations were high after the performance against DF Malan, despite one or twoinjuries.

The match started at a high intensity and saw Bellville piling on a lot of forward pressure, causing the defensive backline (Trudie McCarthy, Abbie Peyton, Molly Woodburn) and keeper Lauren Robson To have to work hard. RGS fought and eventually Hannah Lee got the final touch on a successful penalty corner routine. Then, Bellville fought back and equalised not long before half time: 1-1 at the break.

After half-time,RGS played together more as a unit and showed great determination to get the win. An mazy solo run from Issy Chaudhry led to RGS once again taking the lead, then hold on to ŵin 2-1.
